Miss-David's Thoughts
As a rock fan, I don't really like Damiano's new music. It's a personal opinion and I'm glad to see others agree with me. I couldn't believe he would go down the pipeline of becoming a pop star and going through such lengths to cover his rock past. He seems he's desperate to delete the rockstar he once was. As I was quite young when I first had a crush on Damiano, I fell in love with Rockstar Damiano. I loved the crazy outfits and the fact that Maneskin stood for induviduality and not giving a fuck what anybody thinks of you. Damiano was the centre of all of this - he was the one who went out and pointed the middle finger at anybody who hated on him because he wore skirts and heels, or girly tops and makeup.
It hurts watching him try and cover up the past, he's almost acting like this world famous band never existed. He acts like he didn't save the hearts of millions of rock fans, because thats what he did, he revieved a whole genre. And not just Damiano - all of them did. You know what it feels like? It feels like this whole band went from a Lamborgini to a fucking Mario Kart and started pretending that it was better.
Victoria doing DJ was not on any bingo cards, and yet it seems all of them made a mad dash to run at the first oppotunity. Which makes me wonder - how toxic was Maneskin that they ran like headless chickens from it? Their latest post was of their last festival under the name "Maneskin" and the second they left that stage - we haven't seen the band since. Not even 1 photo of them all together. I'm sure everybody gets a bit sad watching their favourite band fall from under their feet but a band that had barely been around for 6 years with an exponential amount of success? Unlikely.
Things totally changed once they had a new record label. Under Sony Music Italia, they made Teatro d'Ira, the album that pulled us rock fans out of the trenches and into the mainstream, but then Rush! was released under S.L.Y and Epic Records, which has also produced some of Dua Lipa and the Jonas Brother's songs. It just doesn't make sense. That's a lable that made pop, not rock?
Don't get me wrong, Rush! still is a phenominal album, but Teatro d'Ira is the quartet's own editing. You can really tell the difference between Teatro d'Ira which has very little pop influence to Rush! which take out Thomas's guitar and replace it with some watered down computer guitar and you'll say "No, that's pop."
I believe their switch to a pop label had to be to please the TikTok listeners. I definitely felt that Teatro d'Ira had 8 quality, good songs, Rush? 22 half mediocre songs. Listening to Rush in order is such a rollercoaster. You are going from Supermodel to The Loneliest and it just makes no sense. It feels like their label was trying every sound to see what stuck and then when they return it's going to be a couple of the same goddamn song.
So for instance, Gossip, which is kind of the hardest rock song on the album performed the best, so when they return, the future album could just be 8 gossip songs.
All of this is ramble and suspicion though - so don't take my words for merit. I didn't do much homework and if I'm quite honest, this is coming from a delusional Maneskin fan (totally not the name of my playlist).
