Dress To Impress(DTI) is a Roblox game centered around styling your character to the best of your ability in relation to the theme given. For example: there theme is blue, all the contestants have 5 minutes to dress up for that theme, everybody walks down the runway and votes, and the person with the most votes wins.
The themes given are very diverse and delve into internet culture and style history.
probably not. i just put it here because i genuinely have fun playing dti I just overthink things like this all the time.
I have a lot of thoughts lol
For a long time I was a DTI content creator. And although I didn't get hated or had a lot of hate, I still flet that from the community. This game has one of the most dedicated communities I've seen, but this game is run by very young adults who don't understand the concept of boundaries, and it shows.
I am aware the developers want to give the community what they want and a game that doesn't do that to a certain extent will die off (eg. Star Stable Online) but Dress To Impress lets the community control the game.
This is a social game. it needs people to work. What ends up happening though is that when the community is not happy with a decision you make, they flip out, and in some spectacular ways.
During the Halloween Update(and all updates going forward) the moderators of DTI's Discord server would temporarily shut down every single chat room because the developers would get hate from every angle.
This shows they truly have no control over the community surrounding their game, and DTI's fall-off is starting. During the summer update, the game averaged about 150k players a day. I only see a 100K players at peak time. Sure, that's still a lot of players but how many people have you pissed off to the point where you've lost 50,000 players?
Personally, I think the community did that. I've been a trend-setter (6,000 stars) on this game for a long time. I played the most last year during the summer and halloween updates, but the thing is that after halloween the gameplay got a bit stale and boring.
The developers tried to combat this with their new gamemode Style Showdown, but now it's dead. It's easily rigged and if you didn't win you don't even get participation rewards.
I felt very pissed off when I saw style showdown. As a gamemode, it felt rushed and the concept was deeply flawed. It shouldn't have left the drawing board in my opinion.
Although this game is now for me stale and boring, I really take my hat off as to how the developers have made the characters in this game look. They look phenomenal. You almost can't believe that this is a Roblox game.
I love how items stack up (also called layering) and it makes your outfits look amazing. It's quite easy to conform to themes and the avatars look quite realistic (for Roblox standards lol).
I still enjoy dressing up in this game. Making avatars or characters from other games.
The whole concept of DTI is very repetitive. Everybody wants to have the highest rank, everybody wants to win every round. However because people vote for one another, if someone is jealous, they just vote you one star and it has outcomes like the winner gets 12 stars and it goes down until last place has 6-8 stars.
There is different servers based on stars (pro, which is now flooded with people who did star farming and don't know how to dress up) and master (which is 10,000 stars+ and is also starting to flood with people who farmed stars.)
How do you farm stars? Easy. Join a farming server and have an autoclicker at 5 stars. Everybody does the same thing and everybody gets 60 stars per round.
With how much it is to even get to Top Model, I don't blame them, but I don't actually want to farm my way to the top. What if I want to get my ranks genuinely? Well, that's going to take years in the current voting economy.
If I'm honest, I don't even know how they'd fix this. That's why I assume they've kept it the same.
On lower-end machines, this game is straight up unplayable. I STILL lag and I'm on a Mac Mini. Seriously? What the fuck is causing all the lag? Is it scripts? Is it all the parts? Is it players? Come on man, you can't be serious! It's a bloody Roblox game!
They tried to fix this with clothing chests, but if I'm honest, it makes me forget those items even exist. I don't think I've genuinely used the clothing chests since they came out.
I don't think it's the items, I think it's the runways and lobbies that make the lag.
I will admit, I've been guilty of doing this. Even when an outfit is on theme and doesn't use many items, it's "basic". I always end up over-accessorising and nobody says anything because that's just the style of DTI.
I feel that the over-accessorising got normalized because Top Models wanted to differentiate themselves and show "Yep, I'm better at styling stupid pixels than you lol" and everybody wanted to copy and have bragging rights just like they do.
I wasn't present in the DTI community when they reduced the VIP amount from 800 to 579 robux, but I feel quite scammed by Roblox by not refunding me that money. That was expensive! I had to get 98% on my exam to convince my mom to buy me robux so I could get it (LOL UNEMPLOYED)
VIP itself isn't worth it, that's why I feel they reduced the price. At the time of writing the rant below we had about 30 items in VIP and they kept removing them to rework them. Spoiler: You don't need to remove items to rework them...they're 3D models...? When you're done with the rework just swap them?
Obviously they don't think like that though.
The items themselves are quite good and amazing to use for certain themes. The Jellyfish Skirt is amazing for all themes water, fantasy, etc. Other items like phones, laptops, guitars, cyborg...things (I have no idea what it's called), harps, bows, etc. These items were literal game-changers in styling outfits, but other than that, VIP just includes the usual, shoes, dresses, tops, and they're not unique. I just use stuff from the free section anyway🧍🏼♀️
I am beyond frustrated with this game. It is abysmal how the developers seem so ignorant to our criticism and ideas, they are childish and don’t actually listen to us as a community. We are one of the most active, engaging and passionate communities online, and we have a clear admiration and love for this game. I have never seen a community quite like the DTI community and it's frustrating watching the developers clip our wings and shut us down.
It was never hostile. The community was never toxic or like this - and any influencer trying to tell you that they “never experienced toxicity” in this community is plain wrong. This has been a build up of issues for months and the fact that the developers have been slowly but surely blatantly ignoring the vast majority of players.
It starts with the “lag” issues. I can understand, this is a very power intensive game. It is one of the laggiest on Roblox and even my high end devices struggle on high settings. However, removing items players liked and actually used is not an excuse. They keep acting like these items are causing massive lag. Let’s not forget that we have an extremely detailed lobby and runway stage that seems to be lagging the sh!t out of people’s computers and phones.
Removing items is absolutely ridiculous. Especially if items were liked and used by the community. I have bought VIP, and the amount of times they have removed items for “lag” or “to be reworked.” You do not need to remove items to rework them. Keep the old items in the game and when the reworks are ready, just swap the 3D models. Remember, items are 3D models, and there is no reason that about 100 3D models lags the crap out of high end devices.
I have felt that recently there has been a noticeable decline in the community since Gigi went on a break. The dev team are childish and ignore us, the mods delete and actually limit the Discord chats to level 10+, and the level 10+ love to brag about how they can chat in the channels. It is unbelievable that we have to resort to discussing on other platforms because they shut us down and delete our messages and opinions. They love telling us that our criticism is toxic and that we are ungrateful.
It is obvious that the game is losing player engagement by the way they are scrambling for limited items and trying their damndest to get the community engaging like how they did during the summer update. It is terrible that they are hyper-fixating on 3 hour limited items and old item week.
Another sore point is the VIP section. They keep removing or reworking items. I don’t understand the point? They keep reworking items that nobody had a problem with and I can’t understand why they would want to do this. The VIP section has grown quite significantly post-halloween update, but before it was starting to get to a point where I felt like I got a bit ripped off. There aren’t many items that I want to use, sure, they help with my outfits and they make them look a little more on theme with some specific items but there isn’t anything that you can’t really do if you don’t have VIP. It is quite sad they charge 800 robux just to keep removing and reworking items. Reminder: you do not need to remove items to rework them…
DTI is messing too much with the base formula of the game. The introduction of the dressing rooms was at best a mild hindrance and at worst the actual detriment of the gameplay. It is so unfair to people who don’t have the fast walking pass to have to go back at that slow speed to go get something they forgot. The dressing rooms are undoubtedly the worst thing they have done to the game regardless if they have removed any items. It ruins the entire gameplay and it is so clunky and glitchy. They were absolutely infuriating when they said they “couldn’t remove it due to technical issues.” Okay? Like, just add back the old system? Add back the old code item menu? It isn’t that hard to add something you already made.
The management and development teams of DTI need a massive overhaul, they add systems and things the community doesn’t want and get mad when we don’t want it but they do not consult? They do not do a poll? They do not even simply ask for ONE OPINION? They are so quick to run to say that we are mean and toxic as a community but they are doing a HORRIBLE job at managing their development and community management teams. They do not even attempt to consult with us, the actual players of their game.
It is impossible to communicate with them without some sort of player drop. We’ve seen they’re desperate for players and engagement even though they’re easily hitting 100k players at about 6am. If enough of us get mad and stop playing, they will be desperate to have us back, because we’ll all be going to their competition (It Girl, Passion4Fashion) and they do not seem to like that, at all.
I am unsure why they are so pressed about their competition as they’re not exactly competition at all? DTI basically has a monopoly on this genre of games, even games like Royale High are falling into the minority.
A really frustrating thing is the fact that the players who don’t even vote. People say that the voting system needs to require 2 votes (at least) so it’s “more fair” but the thing is that it’s just going to become the base again. You’re going to groan when you get 22 votes because it’s now “nobody voted” even if it’s more stars. The entire voting system needs to be redone.
An example would be Royale High’s voting system, you can give 3 roses to the people of your choice. DTI needs to use a system of this sort because it will motivate people to try style items better and actually put in effort, and also pay attention to who they’re voting for. The best part about Royale High’s system is that if you don’t use your roses they get randomly distributed.
There is nothing new. There is but there also isn't. They just add items and systems we don’t like and call it a day. Why aren’t there new game-modes or challenges in the game? Why is it the same old formula over and over again? Even if you love this game it gets tiring and tedious hour after hour.
There is no way to earn cash besides collecting it, playing rounds and doing the obby. Why is there no game mode for cash?
There is no new way to play. Why can’t we have things like competitive freeplay mode or some sort of multiplayer mode that is OPTIONAL. We should not vote on what modes we want but there should be a button and you can decide to join it.
Speaking about voting - voting for the Brat update was actually really nice. You had a chance to input what you wanted the theme to be instead of it being random. Also speaking about themes - why are there so many bad themes? “Me right now.” “Me in 10/50 years.” or themes younger players can’t understand. “Frutiger Aero” or “Gyaru” because I didn’t even know these subcultures existed until I played this game. Discovery is important, but here’s a thought: don’t bin these themes, put them into a special “hard mode” or a “niche subculture” mode. This helps players like me who want these themes specifically to not have to rejoin 350 times to find it.
I feel heartbroken that I have so many negative words to say about one of my most favourite games of all time. This game filled the void Royale High left. That game is a whole other rant on its own. We needed a new girly dress up game on Roblox and I’m still grateful this game exists, faults and all. There are just serious decisions that need to be made if we want this to still be a popular and fun game.
